APOLOGETICS

What Is the Meaning of Apologetics in the Bible?
This word is an anglicized form of the Greek apologeia, literally meaning "a verbal defense." It is found eight times in the New Testament, and a verb form occurs some ten times.

For example, Luke uses this word to describe Paul's defense of the Christian system before various rulers (Acts 22:1; 24:10; 25:8; 26:1).

In the modern world, the term takes on the sense of reasoned defense of such matters as God's existence, mankind's divine origin, the inspiration of the Scriptures, and Christ's deity. Apologetics constitutes one of the most vital areas of biblical study, for without a solid faith foundation, all else fails.
