The apostle John affirms that Jesus functions as an "advocate" on behalf of his people (1 Jn. 2:1). The Greek word for advocate is parakletos, literally suggesting the sense "to call to one's side." The term denotes "one who appears on behalf of another."
While Satan is the adversary who is ever ready to accuse God's people (Rev. 12:10), Jesus is our "attorney" and is always on hand to plead the case of his disciples who are striving to walk continuously in the light of divine instruction (1 Jn. 1:7).
