EXEGESIS

What Is Exegesis?
The word "exegesis" means "to lead out." It is a part of the larger science of interpretation known as "hermeneutics."

A form of the original word appears in John 1:18, where the apostle affirmed that Jesus came to "declare" (exegeomai) the Father, i.e., to make him known, to explain him, to serve as a commentary on God for humanity's sake. To study Christ is, then, in a considerable measure, to know God (Jn. 14:9).

Biblical exegesis seeks to bring out the meaning of the sacred text by studying the historical and grammatical features of a passage within its context.
