HUMANITY (OF CHRIST)

The Scriptures emphatically teach that the Second Person of the Godhead, the Word (Jn. 1:1), actually became a flesh and blood human being (Jn. 1:14; Heb. 2:14). One partakes of the spirit of antichrist who denies such (2 Jn. 7). See ANTICHRIST. The humanity of Jesus was essential in order that he might die (Heb. 2:14), for without that death no remission of sins could be enjoyed (Heb. 9:14; 22; 10:4; 1 Pet. 1:19). The Lord's humanity is seen in his hunger (Mt. 4:2), his weariness (Jn. 4:6), his fear (Heb. 5:7), etc. Christ's humanness also qualified him to be the perfect mediator on behalf of his people (1 Tim. 2:5; Heb. 2:17-18).
