JOB, BOOK OF

This celebrated book is a narrative regarding an ancient patriarch who lived in Arabia. As a test case, designed to prove that God is "worthy to be praised" (Psa. 18:3) irrespective of the blessings he bestows, Job becomes a tragic, yet faithful example, of endurance (Jas. 5:11). He lost his wealth, his children, his health, and his friends, yet he clung to his confidence that God would vindicate him eventually (19:25-27), in spite of his confused and weak moments. The book demonstrates that even the best of the Lord's people are not exempt from suffering, and that our Maker must be trusted -- no matter what happens (13:15).
