REVELATION OF GOD

The revelation of God has to do with the processes by which the Creator has made himself known to his rational creation. (a) Jehovah has revealed himself to humanity in the abstract features of the Cosmos (that which has order) -- the Universe. The heavens declare his glory (Psa. 19:1), and his invisible qualities (power, wisdom, etc.) are seen in the things that are made (Rom. 1:20). (b) God has revealed himself in the operational procedures of his providential activity. His use of dignitaries like Cyrus of Persia (Isa. 44:28; 45:1ff) defy human explanation. (c) The Lord has shown himself in the sensitivity of the human conscience; even men who have no written revelation from Heaven possess an awareness that "right" and "wrong" exist (Rom. 2:14-15) -- though they may be unable to define precisely how these are to be measured. (d) God has revealed himself in a tangible form, by the incarnate presence of his Son upon the earth twenty centuries ago (Jn. 1:18; 14:9). (e) Our Maker has revealed himself finally in a series of sixty-six, inerrant documents, the authenticity of which is attested by a variety of amazing evidences. Truly, "God has spoken" (Heb. 1:1).
