EXODUS, BOOK OF

The name of the second book of the O.T. means "departure" or "going out." It contains Moses' record of Israel's departure from Egyptian bondage and the nation's separation unto God as a holy body of people -- in preparation for the coming of the Messiah. Exodus details the giving of the law of Moses to the Hebrew people. It covers about 215 years -- from the migration of the Hebrews into Egypt to the reception of the law at Sinai.
